A painting that is older than the U.S. Constitution was returned to its rightful owner this month, more than 50 years after being stolen by mobsters, according to the FBI. The work of art titled “The Schoolmistress” by English painter John Opie was discovered in 2021 as part of an estate sale. The oil painting on canvas dates back to about 1784.
