A pair of statues honoring the Confederacy in Jacksonville’s Springfield Park were taken down Wednesday under the orders of the city’s mayor. “This is not in any way an attempt to erase history but to show that we’ve learned from it. That when we know better, we do better by and for each other,” Mayor Donna Deegan (D) said in a statement.
